The Marvelettes were the first major group to sell 1 million records on the Motown label.. Their debut single for the Tamla (Motown) label, “Please Mr. Postman'', was released in 1961, it was also the first song by a Motown act to reach number one on the Billboard Hot 100 Pop Singles Chart - later in that same year! “Please Mr. Postman” also became a number one hit on the R&B Charts. It was number one again, in 1975, when The Carpenters covered the song, it was once again on the Billboard Hot 100. “Please Mr. Postman” has been covered several times, including The Beatles. It can be heard even today, in other recordings and visual commercials across various media forms
