2024 Malt Shop Memories Cruise
Attending this event?
We are excited to share the current schedule for this year’s cruise! Please only use this as a guide. A complete daily program will be provided onboard, this schedule will not be updated once onboard and should not be used. So, please refer to your daily program onboard for the latest.

Sched is scheduling software we use to provide a schedule to you in advance. You will not be able to log in to this site using your StarVista Live account information. As a reminder, Sched is not a tool to reserve seats or attendance in advance. Please note you cannot build your own schedule in the Sched app. We understand it is a functionality within the app, however this is not available for our event.

A Note Regarding Colored Shows: All non-colored shows are first come, first serve. At the time of booking, if you chose the early show and late dinner, you will be given a key card with a BLUE background when you arrive and check-in in person at the ship terminal. If you chose late show, and early dinner, you will be given a GOLD card. Since the World Stage only holds half the ship, the two different colors simply indicate whether you see that main theater artist in the first or second show. This also provides a much more intimate experience for our guests.

Malt Shop Instrumentalists presentation by Richard Knox
Tuesday October 29, 2024 2:30pm - 3:30pm EDT
MALT SHOP INSTRUMENTALISTS
Prior to the start of Rock and Roll most of the music people were experiencing was composed without lyrics. Whether it was a Mozart symphony or a Brahms piano concerto from the classical era or a Broadway overture, a Big Band number, or a film soundtrack from the last century, some of the greatest melodies ever written were created without words and have never ceased to lose their popularity.
Following in this tradition, a significant number of early Rock ‘n Roll musicians such as Duane Eddy, Santo and Johnny, the Champs, the Ventures, and Dave Cortez were responsible for some of the best-selling recordings of the Malt Shop era. During this presentation we will have a chance to listen to some of their compositions and examine how and why they had such universal appeal.

So many of the outstanding songs of this era were made popular by groups such as the Everly Brothers, the Ronettes, the Paris Sisters, the Angels, Randy and the Rainbows, the Teen Queens and the Kalin Twins. This retrospective will afford us an opportunity to relive a number of their most memorable vocals and examine the influence they had on future Rock stars.
